Navarakizhiis a two-step process. Navarakizhi refers normally to the fomentation of the body. Njavarakizhi therapy involves a generous amount of medicated oil being applied to the whole body. The body is then massaged with small cotton cloth boluses filled with cooked Njavara rice. The method of Njavarakizhi at Ayush Ayurveda Singapore uses boluses that are dipped in this regenerating mixture of cow’s milk and a brewed herbal decoction, and then applied all over the body to induce sudation sweat. In the elaborate and true-to-scripture treatment method at followed at Ayush Ayurvedic Singapore, the cleaned Navara rice is boiled in the mixture of milk and herbal decoction. It is then tied in a fine cotton cloth and made in to a bolus.
At the start of the treatment or the massage program, a little amount of medicated oil is applied over the body so that the treatment can become more effective. During the massage program the kizhi is dipped in warm prepared herbal decoction and then it is gently moved over the body
Navara Kizhi means ‘a poultice of rice.’ Rice is boiled with milk to create a fragrant and nourishing decoction. The cooked rice is then gathered into balls and tied up in linen bags. The warm poultices are then dipped in milk and massaged all over the body
