Shirodhara
Shirodhara treatment at Ayush Ayurveda Singapore is one of the most popular ayurvedic therapies.
Shirodhara is derived from the Sanskrit words “Shiro” which means head and “dhara” which means flow. Accordingly, the therapy involves pouring of oil, milk or herbal formations in oil over the head. Shirodhara thus done, has multi-faceted benefits. In this therapy, the ayurvedic professional chooses an oil depending on the dosha of the patient. Other factors such as climate, ailment to be treated, are also taken into consideration while choosing the oil. In some cases, herbs are steeped in the oil before usage. Sesame oil is a popular choice for Shirodhara. The oil is warmed and poured into a pot which is suspended over the patient’s forehead. The pot has a small opening to allow the oil to flow in a regulated stream over the patient’s head. Once the flow/stream has been opened, the pot is allowed to oscillate from side to side while pouring oil over the patient’s forehead. Care is taken to ensure that the oil remains warm during the entire duration of the treatment. This is accompanied by a calming head massage.
